The U.S.S. Enterprise has voyaged the stars for decades.
Captain Kirk and most of his crew have moved on, and the ship is now under the
command of Lt. Col. L.D. Tibbs, a Starfleet Marine with space experience.
The players are the leaders of the ship: its officers and
its Prime Team, which is a generalized group that goes first into unknown
situations. Available characters include:
VINCENT DESALLE, pilot and navigator. DeSalle is quick,
clever, focused and aggressive. He fences in his spare time to keep his mind
and speed sharp. DeSalle is also idealistic and keeps the goals of the
Federation (which are generic good-guy goals) in mind. DeSalle is a good
character if you want to jump right in and fix everything with your bare hands,
or a stirring speech.
T’PON is a Vulcan female science officer. Like all Vulcans,
she is unemotional, super-strong, and psychic. You’d play T’Pon if you like
figuring out mysteries, be they scientific, political or tactical. Spock is a
good role model for T’Pon.
AZUNDERKAR is an Andorian engineer. He’s got the engineer’s
outlook , which divides life into the part which makes sense (physics,
machinery, the military) and stuff that is for fuzzy-headed academics
(literature, poetry, politics, social behavior in general). Azunderkar can fix
anything, if he knows how it works. You might choose Azunderkar if you want to
take apart the strange mysteries of space at the nuts and bolts level and
figure out how to make it work for you. Harry Dresden is like Azunderkar; good
at magic, not so good at tactics.
SGT. MAJ. RAMIREZ is a tough, brave, macho Star Fleet
Marine. She is based closely on Vasquez from ALIENS, but she’s also in charge
of the Marine detachment of the Enterprise. This means she has to keep her team
working together for the common mission, which is hard to do when you want to
jump in the middle and blast everything. Although that remains an option.
SGT. THARK is a Rigellian Marine. Big, strong, tough, but not
dumb (unless you want to take him in that direction, of course.) He’s a bit like
Gnorfank from Dungeons and Eagles; scary on the surface, but reliable and calm.
DR. MINX MITCHELL is a doctor. She’s the most feminine of
the Prime Team, because T’Pon’s a Vulcan and Ramirez is kind of mannish in her
macho attitude. Minx would prefer to talk to the aliens and find out what they
want, or what’s making them act like jerks. Usually, in her experience, there
aren’t a lot of pure villains in the universe, but there are a lot of people
whom stress makes seem like villains. Play Minx if you want to talk to the
characters you encounter, and maybe recruit them.
The standard Prime Team above is three men and three women,
two fighters, two fixers, and two talkers. If you have another idea (say, you
want to play a doctor, but more of a crusty older type like McCoy), let me know
and I’ll come up with something. A party of six doctors might not work … or it
might be pretty interesting, now that I think about it.
